@Lynnerizer@therealjrn See’s is a boutique outfit based in Dallas (I think) that makes Really Good Stuff. I haven’t had any in ages. They used to have space in a few local upscale groceries, but it looks like their only remaining presence in Houston is in a bougie Spec’s store on the west side.
@Lynnerizer@therealjrn@werehatrack It started in LA and is headquartered in San Francisco. Apparently there are no stores in New England. It’s got a pretty colorful history! Lucy & Ethyl’s famous candy factory scene was filmed in a See’s candy store.

@Kyeh@Lynnerizer@therealjrn@werehatrack when I was younger they were ubiquitous in every Mall in california. The butterscotch was my favorite and one time when I was about 8 and 1/2 months pregnant I ate a quarter pound of them in one sitting I bought more than that but there was somebody I shared it with. Her mother wasn’t very happy. It was a friends special needs daughter
Nobody makes a prepack assortment that I really like. There are some that are over 50% good stuff, but they always seem to want to put things in there that I will just ignore, like milk chocolate over pistachio or walnut nougat. Or peanut butter with any kind of chocolate, ugh. (And it’s always nasty peanut butter, too.) Even Godiva can’t seem to resist the urge to try to satisfy all tastes and thereby fully satisfy none.
I think Russell Stover still makes a dark chocolate fruit cream assortment, but the quality of their fruit cream took a nosedive a few decades back; I’m not paying premium money for that.
Fannie May here in the Midwest. Not sure where exactly they are sold, but thankfully here is one place.
Fun fact: years ago they went out of business. I love them so much I bought a deep freezer to stock up for the coming years after they closed. A few years later they reopened, yay! No regrets for all the chocolate I stocked up on for those years. Yummy!!
Eldora Chocolate is a bean-to-bar artisan chocolate maker in Albuquerque’s North Valley, known for its high-quality, organic, and fair-trade products like single-origin bars, truffles, and drinking chocolate, with a transparent “modern barn” facility where customers can watch the crafting process and get free samples.
We have a local candy storein Baltimore that’s been in business since 1917, called the Louis J. Rheb Candy Company. It’s been a local favorite and family favorite as long as I can remember. When most people keep things in cookie tins, our family has always stored things in Rheb’s boxes.
When one has THE BEST in their own backyard, one is happy to share! Carol Widman’s Candy–Family owned since 1911(!!!) has continuously operated in MN & ND, providing hand-made treats to the people up here. I grew up going to the original in Crookston, MN but then as a younger adult, they opened another location in Fargo, ND, right where I live. So Good! Did I mention they ship nationwide?? Go get you some & don’t forget The Chippers. You’ll thank me for it later! Link to their website
It isn’t a valentine’s day box, and there are surely better chocolates, but I really enjoy the trader joe’s chocolate passport box. You can appreciate the differences.
There is a boutique shop in Dallas called Dude, Sweet Chocolate. They have weird stuff like Fungus Amongus made with porchini mushrooms. Expensive so it’s only a very rare treat. One year for valentines they did Anatomically correct chocolate hearts.
Kilwins used to make big solid chunks of white chocolate that was so good. My grandma would buy it for my mom every Easter and I would always sneak little bites of it. Years ago they changed their recipe and it’s still good but not the same and now they only sell it in prepackaged bars. I have one sitting in the freezer right now. I do like chocolate every once in a while. Drost’s makes some really good chocolate. Whenever I’m up north I go and get some of the chocolate covered toffee and dark chocolate Krispie’s and of course chocolate caramels. We have a local chocolate shop Ross candies that makes the best dark chocolate nonpareils I’ve ever had.
My grandma turned me on to this, I love the Russel stover chocolate covered marshmallow eggs but they have to be frozen. They’re really gross if not. Frozen gives them a completely different taste and texture, you should try it, I was not a believer till I did.
I used to love Godiva, but now they are made with so much crap. Lindt has less crap.
I NEED more Lindor Truffles.
There’s a local place with the very simple name Chocolate Manor, and they are so, SO good.

THAT is where I’m at!

@Lynnerizer @therealjrn See’s is the best! Orange creams are the GOAT. Followed closely by their nut caramels.

@cbilyak Wow, that’s dedication! I agree that they’re really good.
@cbilyak Their only rival was Marshal Fields handmade candies; made by hand in the stores. Their Pixies, Turtle’s and Mint Creams are awesome
DIPLOMAT! RAT-A-TAT! FAT CAT! AWESOME!
@cbilyak @jkawaguchi

Pizzelle’s Confections in Huntsville Alabama. Their goodies are AMAZING!!!
Gertrude Hawk Chocolates are the best. Pennsylvania
Came here to say Sees and Ghiardellis! Way better than Gertrude Hawk knowing all 3. Sees keylime and apple pie are my favs.
William Dean Chocolate - their candy was used in Hunger Games (never saw it/them) and is amazing. Pretty pricey though.

I miss Droste
@detailer
There’s one up north where I live
You can’t go wrong with Ferrero Rocher.
And of course, Ethel M.
I’m southwest Ohio the best is Esther Price. I’m particularly fond of the chocolate covered cherries with a fudge center instead of vanilla.

You had me at Anatomically correct.

Whatever kids don’t eat from Halloween and parades is good enough.
